The Magallanes area, in southern Chile, is isolated from the rest of the country by the southern icefield, so ground transportation with the rest of the country must be via south Argentina. Not so long ago, people in need of specific types of rehabilitation, had to travel to other cities , with a negative impact not only in the outcome of the treatment, but also for their families, friends, work, income, etc. The "Cruz del Sur" Lion's Club started a fundraising campaign to build a more complex rehabilitation center, so people could stay at home during all its process of healing. And they did! With the help of all the people of my home area, one of the most updated rehabilitation center in South America was built, and it currently benefits to patients of all ages not only from southern Chile, but also from southern Argentina, regardless if they have money or not, with a concept of integrative trans-disciplinary  rehabilitation, where every health professional includes the family in the healing process, being aware of all the needs of the patient during it.  Also I personally feel close to it,  part of my studies are here, where I have learnt from the commitment and love of the staff with every patient, giving their best even after work hours, inspiring all of us to be like them.

Every Year, since 1988, a fundraising campaign is held. A TV show lasting around 36 hours is broadcasted and the community display a wide range of activities to collect money, so this center can keep helping to rehabilitate with a top quality service, those more vulnerable. And they keep growing. There are other rehabilitation centers sponsored by Cruz del Sur Lion's Club in every city of the area, including Puerto Williams, the most southern city in the World.

Solidarity is part of our identity... this is a proof of it
