Over half a century ago, the government of India launched “Project Tiger” to promote conservation of the Bengal tigers. To date, Project Tiger has been the largest species conservation initiative of its kind in the world. The Tadoba-Andhari Tiger reserve is Maharashtra's oldest and largest National Park and one of India's 47 Project Tiger reserves.
This year, the 2024 Tadoba Festival, which will be held from March 1st to 3rd in India, is dedicated to promoting tiger preservation and will celebrate the success story of Tadoba on a global stage. It will focus on raising awareness about India’s “attempt to promote wildlife conservation, sustainable tourism and local cultural heritage in Maharashtra” as stated by Sudhir Mungantiwar, the esteemed Cabinet Minister for Forests, Cultural Affairs, and Fisheries in the Maharashtra Government. Whilst highlighting the efforts of forest personnel, communities in and around forests, scientific institutions, and the non-governmental sector, it will also discuss the challenges and solutions for future tiger conservation.
The Miss World’s multi-media challenge this year is focused on the campaign to save the tigers in India. This campaign aims to shed light on the threats faced by tigers due to habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict. As Miss World Cayman Islands, I am honored to come together, along with my fellow pageant sisters, in supporting the “Save the Tiger” campaign.
It is important for persons to understand that although there are many differences between wildlife and humans, there is a way to promote sustainable coexistence between both. Despite this being a focused effort for preserving the tigers in India, there are things that every person on this planet can do. I ask that you please join me with raising awareness for such a wonderful cause. As you all know, I am passionate about preserving Mother Earth, and all its inhabitants – tigers included.
In the words of Leonardo DiCaprio “Raising awareness on the most pressing environmental issues of our time is more important than ever”. Let us come together in harmony, to safeguard these beautiful creatures and preserve their environment.
