Get to Know Jaime VandenBerg and her Inspiring Mission to Conquer Gender-Based Violence
Hello world! I am Jaime VandenBerg, representing Canada with great pride at the Miss World festival. As an international model and philanthropist, I've journeyed across borders, embracing new cultures and languages with resilience and an open heart. My adventures have shaped my career and fueled my passion for activism, particularly in the fight against gender-based violence—a cause deeply personal to me.
I'm thrilled to share my Beauty with a Purpose project, "Peaks for a Purpose," a testament to my belief in the power of resilience, empowerment, and community support. This project was born from my own experiences as a survivor of gender-based violence and my commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of others facing similar challenges.
"Peaks for a Purpose" is more than just a campaign; it's a journey of healing, awareness, and empowerment. By climbing Pico de Orizaba, the highest peak in Mexico, I aimed to symbolize the arduous path survivors navigate towards recovery. This climb was not just for me but for every individual who has faced the shadows of violence, to show that strength and hope can flourish even in the toughest terrains.
Through this project, I've had the privilege of teaching Canadian women's history and promoting gender equality in rural schools, participating in women's circles, and engaging in dialogue with global leaders about the universality of gender-based violence. Each step has been a stride towards a future where empowerment, safety, and strength are the cornerstones of our society.
My journey has also led me to create a solo travel safety and self-defence program in Mexico, inspired by the pivotal role boxing played in my healing process. This initiative is designed to empower survivors of violence, helping them rediscover their strength and remember that their power is within themself; not something that can be taken.
As Miss World Canada, I carry with me the hopes of my nation and the stories of countless individuals I've met along the way. "Peaks for a Purpose" is my call to action—a plea for awareness, dialogue, and change. Together, we can climb the highest peaks and forge a path towards a world free from gender-based violence.
