Day 4: BWAP & H2H
Jaime VandenBerg shares her powerful "Peaks for a Purpose" campaign at Miss World, advocating against gender-based violence and embodying the spirit of Beauty with a Purpose through personal experience and a call to action for change.
Day 4 of the Miss World competition was a day I had been both eagerly anticipating and preparing for with all my heart. It was the day we presented our Beauty with a Purpose projects, a core part of the Miss World ethos that resonates deeply with me. My project, "Peaks for a Purpose," is a campaign born from my own experiences and a fervent desire to make a tangible difference in the world, particularly in the fight against gender-based violence.
We had 2 minutes to present on our Beauty with a Purpose project here is what I said:
My name is Jaime VandenBerg and I am representing Canada. It is estimated that a women dies due to gender based violence nearly every ten minutes. I was one of the lucky ones to survive. But my survival story has been a difficult one filled with many peaks and valleys, a realization I found as I was summitting a mountain. You start at rick bottom, looking up to a seemingly impossible task of feeling safe again but you take a step followed by another and another and before you know it you are feeling in top of the world again. My beauty with a purpose project, peaks for a purpose is a multi faceted campaign to simultaneous raise awareness for the unique journey of survivors while breaking down gender based violence from the root. By teaching about strong women in my country to kids in rural schools I was able to set the record straight, we are not damsels in distress, we are warriors capable of changing the world. Miss World and the projects we are sharing today is a shining example of exactly that. So let’s try, to take advantage of each day, live our dream and create lasting change for safer world. All we need to do is take the first step.
