SOS Riberinhos Mission and Indigenous Communities with "Amigos do Reino" project
Today I remembered the days on mission during one of the biggest challenges that the state of Amazonas has faced in recent years: the biggest drought in history. It wasn't easy to see this whole situation happening. Watching families, children and young people suffering for not having something as “basic” as drinking water and food on the table. Many are unaware of the impact of the drought that occurred in the Rio Negro, a tributary of the Amazon, on the lives of many people. 62 municipalities were affected. Totaling an average of 600 thousand people who suffered serious consequences. When would we imagine the largest river basin without water? And that has been the reality in recent weeks. The mission was divided into parts to reach different municipalities, communities and villages. This took place in Autazes, where 209 basic food baskets and more than 3 tons of water were distributed, reaching 7 indigenous villages.
