"Por Ellas" For Them

My Beauty with a Purpose project is to help strengthen and empower the development and lifestyle of pregnant adolescents in Beni, Bolivia.

In Bolivia, more than 82,000 cases were registered since 2015 decreasing in 2019 with 47,000 cases. 1 in 3 pregnancies in women between the age of 15 and 19 are not planned and 7-17% are caused by sexual violence. An adolescent pregnancy can cause school dropouts, discrimination from society and even from family members. These young mothers are more likely to live in poverty and are more at risk of suffering domestic violence. Many of them do not feel supported and end up abandoning their babies.

For this reason, I saw the need to work with pregnant teenage girls and help implement strategies aimed at assessing their capabilities. I provided support to help them finish their studies and raise their children. Most importantly, I helped them establish a home without violence.

Part of my project is providing workshops on sexual responsibility, nutrition, interfamily violence, psychological support and quality of life. They are also provided with courses at curriculum level in computers, pastry, hair and make-up and other work tools to help them be independent and capable of providing a better future for their children.

These young women need to be listened to and supported that is why I want to help them get ahead and have each and every one of them believe in all they can achieve.
