“Opal Suchata” is concerned about the dangers of e-cigarettes for Thais. Tuberculosis patients who smoke are more at risk. Continuing to work in the entertainment industry along with work that helps society in all aspects for “Opal Suchata Chuangsri”, from doing the OPAL For Her project to raise awareness about breast cancer, which is a project that came from Opal’s determination, she knows that having both of her proud positions helps to be a louder voice in society. Most recently, she wanted to raise awareness of the dangers of e-cigarettes and would like to be another voice that dares to say that the impact is not only on smokers, but also on those who are exposed to second-hand smoke. She also said that e-cigarettes are a big issue in society right now. She follows the news and has also read research that shocked her when she found out that there are dangerous substances that should not be in the human body. “Opal went to read research from the University of Minnesota in the United States that found formaldehyde in e-cigarettes that can cause cancer. From studying the data, she found that e-cigarettes also contain substances that destroy the body, especially the lungs, which cannot work at their full potential, cannot filter out germs that enter the respiratory system, and has an effect on the respiratory system. Especially people with tuberculosis, asthma, or can cause heart disease and blood vessel disease, which has quite many impacts. Now I feel that people are smoking e-cigarettes more and second-hand smoke also affects the body.” And on World Tuberculosis Day, which falls on March 24 of every year, to raise awareness of the dangers of tuberculosis, which is a respiratory disease. And if you have tuberculosis but still smoke e-cigarettes, it will further damage your lungs, damage your health, and increase the risk of spreading the infection. Opal would like to be a voice to emphasize that having tuberculosis affects both the patient and those around you. “Tuberculosis is one of the things that affects those around you or people in society. We have to be more careful because the impact is not just ourselves, but also others. In Opal’s life, I have met people who are facing this disease. I saw that their life is not easy. It turned out that they were worried that they would pass this on to others. They were so careful in their lives that it was like they didn’t live with others at all. Therefore, the best thing is to cut out each factor. We should start with prevention rather than cure.” In addition, Opal also left a message for those who are thinking of smoking and those who are addicted to e-cigarettes, saying, “Currently, there are many examples, so I want everyone to be careful about their health. People who are smoking, in addition to thinking about their own health, should also think about the health of those around them. Although there are currently factors that we cannot control, such as the environment or PM 2.5 dust, e-cigarettes are something that we can control. I want everyone to try to think about it and be aware of this for yourself and for those around you.” She also sent encouragement to those who are thinking of quitting e-cigarettes, saying, “Thank you for wanting to quit e-cigarettes. It is considered doing it for yourself and for those around you. I would like to give you encouragement. I believe that if we are determined enough to do it, we can definitely do it.” Opal also concluded that she is another voice speaking on this issue. For those who already care about their health, they can come out and speak up or raise awareness about this issue for those around them, in order to lead to a healthy and safe society together.
