Ivanna McMahon - IRELAND - Head to Head Presentation The United Nations seventeen Sustainable Development Goals were created in 2015 as an urgent call for action for world development by 2030. At the halfway point, we still have far to go to achieve these goals. For me, goal number 4, inclusive, quality education and lifelong learning opportunities is of critical importance due to it’s transformative effect on all seventeen of the goals. Currently we are on a path for 300 million children to lack basic literacy and numeracy skills by 2030. This is unacceptable. When children are offered a quality education and the tools to develop to their full potential, it allows them to become productive, educated adults who can give back to their community, breaking the poverty cycle and increasing social, economic and personal growth. We need to campaign to improve our national educational policies and finances, so that they can become a priority worldwide, allowing everyone access to a quality education. The seventeen Sustainable Development Goals are ambitious. But I believe that we, as one family, one world, with one future, can achieve them together.
