“Princess Gandingan”—a dazzling cultural creation by designer Simeon Cayetano for the Dances of the World. Inspired by the Maranao epic Darangen, the costume pays homage to the legendary Princess Gandingan, brought to life through Krishnah’s performance of the traditional Singkil dance. This regal ensemble stuns in vibrant shades of magenta and gold, adorned with hand-sewn sequins, intricate beadwork, and metallic embroidery. The bold chevron patterns and flowing inaul-inspired sash reflect the richness of Maranao heritage, while feathered fans in hot pink add dynamic flair—mirroring the rhythmic energy of the bamboo poles in Singkil. Crowning the look is an ornate bejewelled headpiece, rising like a torogan rooftop, symbolizing Maranao royalty. Every detail of Princess Gandingan honors the strength, grace, and cultural pride of the Filipino spirit—a moving tribute to tradition in motion.
