But this look is more than just fashion,it tells a story. These photos were captured at Tawana Camp in the heart of the Okavango Delta during my national tour, made possible by the Botswana Tourism Organization. Behind me stands a powerful sculptural piece at the camp’s entrance, inspired by the traditional fish basket used in Northern Botswana. It’s a subtle yet meaningful symbol of our rich heritage and connection to nature.
Now that I’m on the world stage, I carry with me everything that makes Botswana special: our breathtaking landscapes, creative brilliance, and the beauty of our people.

At first glance, the eye is drawn to the powerful backdrop of the Big Five lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and buffalo animals that represent the raw majesty of Botswana’s wildlife and the spirit of African pride. Behind each majestic beast is a traditional tatana, or Botswana handmade basket, symbolizing the skillful artistry of indigenous women who have, for generations, woven their legacy into every reed, creating both heritage and livelihood.
Wrapped around the waist, two grand flares extend like the ears of the African elephant Botswana’s gentle giant and a national treasure. They command attention, symbolizing strength, wisdom, and the bond between people and nature. Each detail on the bodice glistens with hand-applied beads that catch the light like the diamonds beneath Botswana’s soil an elegant reminder that the country’s prosperity is deeply connected to the richness of its land.
The skirt echoes makgabe, a traditional wool garment once worn by young girls and women as they journeyed into womanhood. It connects the present with the past, celebrating the women who nurtured culture through generations. Cascading layers and earthy tones ground the ensemble in authenticity, heritage, and memory.
Flowing from the legs are dramatic embellishments inspired by phathisi, a traditional dance of the Bakwena people. These textured additions pay homage to rhythm, celebration, and the enduring power of Botswana’s performing arts a dance form that speaks to resilience, unity, and joy.
