🎶 Light the Passion Share the Dream 🎶 with Hindi Lyrics in Tribute to the Wonderful Host Country, India 🇮🇳
A beloved tradition of many Miss World fans, is the unified singing of the song ‘Light the Passion Share the Dream’ at the end of a telecast. What made the 71st edition special, was that the song began in the Hindi language, which was a special nod to the host country India 🇮🇳 It was an unforgettable moment after the crowning of the 71st Miss World, Krystyna Pyszková from the Czech Republic 🇨🇿

The Modesty and Simplicity of the Miss World 2003 Opening Number✨
2003 was the very first year the People’s Republic of China 🇨🇳 hosted the Miss World festival in Sanya, a city on China’s most southern island of Hainan. (Not to be confused with Hong Kong 🇭🇰 hosting in 1989; Hong Kong was considered a British colony in 1989, until 1997 when it was handed back to China). This was an incredible investment into the Miss World brand, and shift from how the governing bodies of the People’s Republic of China viewed pageants (beauty pageants were banned by Mao Zedong). In fact, 2001 was the very first year that the People’s Republic of China debuted at Miss World (not to be confused with the candidates of ‘Free China’ (from Chinese Taipei, not mainland China) at Miss World 1961 and 1962, the former represented by Grace Li who actually won the 1RU spot to Rosemarie Frankland MW1961 from UK 🇬🇧!) One of the first things I noticed about the 53rd edition (2003) was the simplicity and modesty of the opening number. I especially loved the matching red silk traditional style gowns commonly referred to as cheongsams. While I could not find the name of the designer (please, if anyone knows the name of the designer I would greatly appreciate that information!), I admired the power of simplicity and modesty that the cheongsam gave each contestant.

Atong Demach: Miss World Africa 2012 and an Unforgettable Contestant from South Sudan 🇸🇸
At the 62nd edition in 2012, Atong Demach became the first ever representative from South Sudan 🇸🇸. Within this edition, Atong not only placed as a semi-finalist through winning the Top Model challenge event, she went as far as the Top 7. Many who watched this edition will remember her powerful answer to the question of ‘Why should you be the next Miss World?’ to which she answered: “As a young girl growing up in a country with wars, seeing my people homeless, poor without education and losing someone every single day; If I am here today it’s because I’ve learned to take every day as a new chance to learn more, to give more, and to love more. I believe we truly make life of what we give and there’s nothing more wonderful than making a child’s mind and have a great hope for a better future. That’s the beauty I stand for and that’s beauty with a purpose.” Chills. It was said that she placed 3RU (or fourth) though this was not announced during the telecast. One thing is for certain, Atong made history for her country and was an incredible Miss World Africa. She exemplified her words as living ‘beauty with a purpose’ far into her life post Miss World.

Miss World
A Flashback Moment from the 61st Edition Telecast
One of my favourite things to witness as a passionate Miss World fan, is former titleholders of a different era describe their experiences. During the 61st edition in 2011, two former Miss World titleholders were brought together at the Lyceum Ballroom in London, UK where they had once been crowned at the ages of 18 and 19. They were Miss World 1953, Denise Perrier from France 🇫🇷, and Miss World 1954, Antigone Costanda from Egypt 🇪🇬. It was such a sweet, nostalgic moment for them to be sitting in the same theatre over 50 years later and speak about how their time was so different from the present, but that the organization remained as strong as ever. Though many of us were not born during this time, we cherish these stories from the past, the timeless elegance of the former winners, and the Miss World organization that values each and every one of their former queens. Cheers to all the beautiful, nostalgic moments 🥂
