Ruth Yirgalem was crowned Miss World Ethiopia 2026 on April 22, earning the right to represent her country at the upcoming Miss World Festival in Vietnam, becoming part of the celebration of 75 years of Miss World history.

The new Miss World Ethiopia has big shoes to fill, succeeding Hasset Dereje, whose remarkable performance at the 72nd Miss World Festival, held in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, in 2025, made history for Ethiopia. Hasset finished as 1st Runner-Up overall and was named Miss World Africa, the strongest results ever achieved by an Ethiopian delegate at Miss World.

The handover comes with warm words from her predecessor. Celebrating Ruth’s victory, Hasset shared the following message on Instagram:

“Truly well deserved! I believe she truly embodies resilience… May your reign be blessed.”

The new Miss World Ethiopia is the founder of Crown of Taytu, a coffee cupper. 

In recent weeks, Ruth had actively documented her Miss World Ethiopia journey through official sash ceremonies, challenge events, and campaign appearances in Addis Ababa, signaling a determined and highly engaged run to the crown. She edged out other 49 finalists who competed on the stage for the national title.

At Miss World in Vietnam, Ruth Yirgalem will have the chance to introduce modern Ethiopia to a global audience.

The 75th anniversary of Miss World will happen from August 9 to September 5.
