Miss World South Africa 2024 and MiDesk Global Ambassador, Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg, has officially handed over smart desks to Boschkop Primary School, marking another milestone in her commitment to education and youth empowerment.

The initiative, a partnership between MiDesk Global and the Department for Basic Education’s Rural Directorate, forms part of a broader effort to build an inclusive, future-ready education system in South Africa.

According to the Department’s official report, Boschkop Primary School received 110 mobile desks, designed not only for use at school but also at home. Each smart desk combines a writing surface, an integrated school bag, and a solar-powered light, ensuring that learners can study even in low-light conditions.

“These desks are more than furniture, they are keys to opportunity,” said Dr Phumzile Langa, Director of Rural Education. “Today, we are not just delivering desks, we are delivering hope, lighting the path for the leaders, innovators, and change-makers of tomorrow.”

For Zoalize, the project is deeply personal:

“The MiDesk Global invention has transformed my perspective on the future of education. A desk is more than a tool for carrying books or writing. It holds the dreams, ambitions, and creative expressions of young minds ready to explore and learn. When we invest in the mind of a child, we are investing in the boundless possibilities of a brighter future.”

Her involvement with MiDesk began in 2024 during a collaborative activation, when she first highlighted the urgent need for innovative solutions in education. “Globally, 95 million children lack proper learning environments. MiDesk ensures every child has a comfortable and efficient workspace, creating the possibility of equal education across the world,” she explained.

Beauty with a Purpose in Action

Zoalize’s partnership with MiDesk Global extends her Beauty with a Purpose mission, reinforcing her long-standing ‘Never Too Young To Advocate’ programme. Inspired five years ago during her first visit to an orphanage, she has since devoted herself to restoring dignity, opportunity, and hope to vulnerable children.

Beyond MiDesk, Zoalize actively supports organizations such as Unchain Our Children, Arms of Mercy, and The Smile Foundation, providing aid that ranges from legal support to mental health care and safe learning spaces. She has also authored a book, Only a World Away, which blends her personal story with activities and worksheets aimed at improving children’s literacy.

Most recently, as an Ambassador for The Smile Foundation, Zoalize launched the Socks For Smiles Campaign, aiming to fund 100 surgeries for children with cleft lip and palate. “By simply wearing colorful socks and purchasing a sticker, anyone can help change a child’s life,” she shared enthusiastically. Stickers are available nationwide in South Africa and online.

From delivering smart desks to classrooms to raising funds for life-changing surgeries, Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg, who represented South Africa brilliantly at the 72nd Miss World Festival, embodies the values of service, compassion, and purpose.
