A great Sunday afternoon reminding us that true beauty lies in giving time and love to who need it the most
While in Wales, Miss World Opal Suchata spent some time Sunday, October 26, visiting The Hollies nursing home, in Pontypridd, where she shared tea, music, and conversations with the residents. Opal spoke about her work as Miss World and took time to listen to the stories and experiences of some of the residents, who shared their daily activities, from exercise sessions and art workshops to their favorite pastime, outdoor walks.
Hillary (in green) and Lillian, with Miss World Opal Suchata. Lillian, one of the residents, confessed she was astonished to meet Miss World in person: “I couldn’t believe it when they told me. Miss World is something that lives in our imagination. In the past, whole families used to gather to watch the show together.”
Her friend Hillary then added: “I remember Helen Morgan very well, she was Welsh.”
They also recalled Wilnelia Merced, Miss World 1975, “the one who later married Bruce Forsyth”, and of course, Julia Morley.
Adding a special touch to the visit, Opal played the piano for the group and visited some of the oldest residents in their rooms, including Jean, who had recently celebrated her birthday and was delighted to receive Miss World’s visit and warm wishes.
Opal and Jean, the birthday girl. “Many times people don’t realize that charity is not only about money, but about giving a bit of our time to the elderly,” Opal shared. “They are wise people we can learn so much from, and you don’t need a sash or a crown to do that. I’m very grateful to the Miss Wales organization for this opportunity. It was a truly special visit, and I carry them all in my heart.”
The visit was filled with smiles, nostalgia, and special moments.
