Miss World Guyana 2026, Kelcia Nelson, recently returned to her ancestral roots in the indigenous village of Malali, where she delivered her Beauty With a Purpose initiative, Her First Lesson, aimed at empowering young women through education and personal development.

The program focused on three key themes: understanding self-worth, finding one’s voice, and recognizing personal value. Through interactive discussions and activities, Nelson encouraged participants to think critically about their futures and make informed decisions that support long-term independence and growth.

Nelson’s family descends from the Malali community. She said hearing participants reflect on what they had learned and how the lessons resonated with them reinforced the importance of early intervention and education.

The program forms part of Her First Lesson, a nationwide initiative designed to equip young women with practical life skills and confidence. Nelson documented the visit through social media and the project’s recently launched website.

Miss World Guyana also spent time engaging with residents and experiencing the surrounding region, including a boat tour and a visit to Kaikushicabra Falls. She also met local leaders and community members who welcomed her back to the village.

She thanked the people of Malali, including the Toshao and Vice Toshao, for their hospitality and acknowledged the support of sponsors who helped provide gift packages for participants.

She plans to expand Her First Lesson to additional communities across Guyana as preparations continue for her participation in the 75th Anniversary Miss World Festival, which will take place in Vietnam, August 9 to September 5.
