With the support of Miss World Botswana, the nation celebrated a historic moment in athletics as the country hosted the 2026 World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, marking the first time the global event has ever been staged on African soil. 

The host nation delivered one of the standout performances of the competition, winning gold in the men’s 4x400m relay in front of an enthusiastic home crowd at the Botswana National Stadium. Botswana finished in 2:54.47, ahead of South Africa and Australia in what has been described as one of the fastest relay races in history. 

The victorious relay team featured Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo and world 400m champion Collen Kebinatshipi, further cementing Botswana’s growing reputation as a global athletics force. 

Throughout the two-day competition, athletes from around the world competed for medals and qualification spots for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing. 

Miss World Botswana, Angel Modipane, joined nationwide celebrations following the relay success, sharing her pride as Botswana “brings home gold” and praising the unity and energy witnessed during the event.

The World Athletics Relays brought international attention to Gaborone and highlighted Botswana’s ability to host major sporting events on the global stage. 

Angel will represent Botswana at the 74th Miss World Festival, in Tanzania, in May of 2027.
