After Halle Berry and Lynda Carter, Miss World Malaysia 1983 will join the elite circle of Miss World participants turned Hollywood legends.

Malaysian-born actress Michelle Yeoh, who first captured global attention as Miss World Malaysia 1983 when she represented her country at the Miss World pageant in London, will be honored with the 2,836th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next Wednesday (Feb 18) in front of the historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

Her star will make Yeoh one of a very select group of former Miss World participants to receive this honour. Earlier recipients include Miss World USA 1972 Lynda Carter, who received her Walk of Fame star in 2018, and Miss World 1986 contestant Halle Berry, who was awarded her star in 2007, making Yeoh the third alumnus of the Miss World family to be immortalized on Hollywood Boulevard.

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome actress Michelle Yeoh to the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” said Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez in a press statement. Yeoh’s long and trailblazing career—from beauty queen to action star to Academy Award winner—has left a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.

She will receive her star in the Motion Pictures category, with American filmmaker Jon M. Chu and Taiwanese director Ang Lee set to emcee the event, and Emmy award–winning entertainment journalist Jenelle Riley as guest speaker.

Yeoh’s career took off through Hong Kong action films, and in 2023 she made history as the first Asian performer to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for Everything Everywhere All at Once, also becoming the first Malaysian to win an Oscar. Her résumé includes international blockbusters such as Crazy Rich Asians and the Wicked franchise.
