Tonota native to represent Botswana at the 74th Miss World Festival, in 2027
Botswana has officially selected its representative for the 74th edition of Miss World, which will occur in 2027. The winner of the Miss Botswana 2026 contest is Magdeline Angel Modipane. The grand finale was at Molapo Creative Hub, in Gaborone.
The 25-year-old, who hails from Tonota in the Central District, emerged as the winner after a competitive evening including fierce and clever answers by the finalists.
Standing alongside the new titleholder were 1st Runner-up Mosa Gontshwanetse, also from Tonota District, and 2nd Runner-up Michelle Bagoleng, completing the Top 3.
A final-year Bachelor of Accountancy student at the University of Botswana, Modipane combines academic excellence with a strong sense of social responsibility. Her journey has been shaped by humble beginnings in a close-knit family environment.
At the heart of her Miss Botswana journey is her “Beauty With a Purpose” project, Tlhokomelo, a Setswana word meaning “care and protection.” The initiative focuses on addressing child neglect and improving the well-being of vulnerable children across Botswana.
Through school visits and community engagement, Modipane has witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by many children, including lack of basic school supplies, inadequate learning environments for children with disabilities, and limited emotional and material support for orphans.
“No child should be neglected early in life, and protecting and nurturing children is a responsibility we all share,” she has said.
Her project aims to tackle these issues through a holistic approach, including the provision of essential items such as food, clothing, and school materials, while also promoting awareness and prevention of child neglect and abuse. Additionally, Tlhokomelo seeks to support education through mentorship, tutoring, and bursaries, equip children with practical life skills, and strengthen parental and community involvement in child welfare.
She succeeded Ruth Thomas, the 2025 and Botswana’s representative at the 73rd Miss World Festival, later this year.
