Latricia Ian, 24, was crowned Miss World Tanzania 2026 after winning the inaugural edition of Miss World Tanzania held in the early hours of April 20 at the Super Dome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam.

She received the crown from reigning Miss World Opal Suchata of Thailand and the sash from the hands of Hasset Dereje of Ethiopia, Miss World Africa and first runner-up at the 72nd Miss World Festival, staged in Telangana, India, in 2025. Miss World Chairwoman Julia Morley CBE was also present for the event.

Latricia is a Client Manager at Infocus Studio, bringing strong communication and leadership skills to her advocacy work. Through her Beauty With a Purpose project, “Nuru ya Elimu,” she empowers young people through education beyond the classroom, helping them build confidence, discover their potential, and access opportunities for a brighter future.

Although this was the first official edition of Miss World Tanzania, Ian becomes the 30th woman to represent Tanzania at Miss World. The country’s debut dates back to 1960, when it competed as Tanganyika through Carmen Lesley Woodcock.

Ian will now prepare to represent Tanzania at the 75th Anniversary Edition of the Miss World Festival, to be held in Vietnam from August 9 to September 5, 2026.

Tanzania’s strongest result at Miss World came in 2006, when Nancy Abraham Sumari advanced to the Top 6 and earned the continental title of Miss World Africa.

The final brought together 20 contestants from across the country. During the show, the finalists performed local dances, took part in runway presentations in beautiful gowns, delivered speeches, and answered questions from the judging panel.

The contestants also took to the stage to dance and walk the runway to major hits by local pop star Alikiba, whose live performance energized the arena, brought the crowd to its feet, and kept the audience dancing throughout the night.

Nouru Masoud, also representing Dar es Salaam, finished as first runner-up, while Paulina Allute of the Central Zone placed second runner-up. Silvia Mussa of the Southern Highlands and Diana Rutagalinda completed the Top 5.

As winner, Ian received a prize package including a Mercedes-Benz A-Class, cash prize, a monthly salary during her year of reign as well as an apartment to live during this period of time, travel insurance and the national crown.

Her victory comes at a significant moment for Tanzania. Less than 48 hours after the event, the country was officially confirmed as host of the 74th Miss World Festival, scheduled for May 2027, placing Tanzania firmly in the international spotlight.
