An open conversation on purpose, authenticity, and the power of kindness offered the 20 contestants guidance ahead of the national final.
On April 18, Julia Morley CBE, Miss World Opal Suchata, and Miss World Africa Hasset Dereje, sat down with the 20 finalists of Miss World Tanzania for an open and inspiring conversation about Beauty With a Purpose and the journey ahead.
Any sense of formality quickly disappeared. At Julia’s invitation, the room shifted into a circle, creating space for a frank exchange. One by one, the finalists introduced themselves and shared their social projects, before listening to personal reflections from Julia and the two titleholders.
The finalists were encouraged not to compare their journeys, but to focus on their own voices and the impact they can create. “No one else can be you,” Julia Morley reminded them.
They spoke about the importance of supporting one another, giving people chances, and continuing their BWAP work beyond the national contest, making it part of everyday life rather than a one-time effort.
Julia Morley took them back to a defining moment from 1972 in Singapore, where an elderly woman quietly dedicating her life to helping the poor inspired the creation of Beauty With a Purpose, reminding her that even the smallest act of kindness, like a single lit candle, can shine brighter than darkness.
Opal highlighted that what truly matters is what comes from within, drawing from her work on breast cancer awareness. She added that her Miss World journey has not only given her a sense of purpose, but also a deeper understanding of her place in the world.
Hasset encouraged the finalists to stay present, appreciate every moment, and recognize the impact they have on the people around them.
Personal stories added depth to the conversation, from overcoming challenges to finding motivation through purpose. One recurring theme stood out: authenticity. Being genuine, embracing one’s story, and staying grounded were seen as the true “superpowers” that carry far beyond the stage.
The session closed on a note of gratitude and perspective, with finalists reflecting on the experience, the diversity around them, and the shared sense of purpose that defines the Miss World journey.
