Magdeline Angel Modipane, Miss World Botswana 2026 (74MW), commemorated the Day of the African Child on June 16 with students at Kgafela Primary School, using her Beauty With a Purpose project, Tlhokomelo, to support children in need and promote education and empowerment.

The Day of the African Child honors the students of Soweto, South Africa, who stood up for their right to quality education in 1976. Across Africa, the day serves as a reminder of the importance of creating safe and supportive learning environments where every child can thrive.

Through Tlhokomelo, a Setswana word meaning “care and protection,” Magdeline is addressing issues affecting vulnerable children in Botswana, including neglect, lack of basic necessities, and barriers to education. Her initiative aims to provide practical support while strengthening community involvement in child welfare and development.

During her visit to Kgafela Primary School, Magdeline distributed essential care packs and blankets to students and organized a public speaking competition designed to encourage confidence, self-expression, and leadership among young people. Ten learners participated as finalists, with the top three receiving awards and prizes.

The project has also highlighted challenges faced by the school, including shortages of learning materials and inadequate facilities for students with disabilities.

According to the Miss Botswana Organization, 50 students benefited from the distribution of care packs and blankets during the event. The initiative was supported by partners including Sunshine Insurance, OnePula Foundation, and Book Binder Business Law.

As Miss World Botswana 2026, Magdeline Angel Modipane will represent Botswana at the 74th Miss World Festival, scheduled to take place in Tanzania in May 2027, where she will present her Beauty With a Purpose project on the international stage.
