Our Blue Water Lily Anudi, who greeted the world At the opening ceremony of the 72nd Miss World pageant, our Miss World Anudi Gunasekara showed the world her Sri Lankan identity. After a beautiful and elegant journey, she greeted the world by saying goodbye, wearing a simple but beautiful light purple dress and jewelry. The dress she wore was not chosen by chance, there is a big story behind it.... Anudi chose this dress for three reasons, 1. To symbolize the water lily, the national flower of Sri Lanka. 2. As a tribute to the first Miss Sri Lanka, Manel Ilangakoon. 3. To represent the color of the Saheli Foundation started by Anudi to eliminate menstrual poverty (purple has been used internationally to represent women's rights since the 20th century). The concept of this dress and the symbolic meaning it represents is not only Anudi's idea but she started designing it the day after she won the Miss Sri Lanka crown. That is, almost a year ago!! Do we need any more comments about Anudi's enthusiasm and dedication to take Sri Lanka's name to the world?? Anudi is the best example that a beauty queen is not just a pretty face.
