Sometimes you find comfort in unexpected things. For me, the seasons are a reminder of my mother, who is no longer here. Each season I find her in a different way, as if nature whispers that she was never truly gone. This poem, My Mother Nature, was originally written in Dutch and later translated into English. It was born from the loose words and impressions I’ve written down over the years, moments I didn’t want to forget. My Mother Nature I feel you in the seasons. In the colors of the sky, the whisper of the wind. I feel you in the scent of rain, in the first bloom of hyacinths. I feel you in all that moves with life. I feel you most in the cold, as if you are close for a moment. You, who gave so much warmth. Slowly you slip away again, as time escapes us. Until I find you once more, next season. I will also share this poem as part of my talent performance for Miss World Netherlands, because for me, poetry is not just words, it’s connection.
