Giving back to society is truly meaningful, but nurturing the source of life, motherhood, stands above all. In collaboration with the @wickipura_leos we successfully conducted an awareness program addressing the common challenges postpartum mothers face, including postpartum depression, lactation struggles, postpartum periods, and more. We were privileged to work alongside an exceptional team of experts, including Dr. Pradeep Wijesinghe, Director of De Soyza Maternity Hospital, as well as Dr. Chathuri Suraweera, Dr. Kalhari, and Dr. Amanda Jacob, whose support made this initiative a resounding success. De Soyza Maternity Hospital holds a significant place in history as Sri Lanka’s first maternity hospital and the second oldest in Asia. What truly touched us was a reflection shared by Dr. Kalhari at the conclusion of the program. She noted that while postpartum mothers usually receive health education lectures, this project inspired them to incorporate discussions on postpartum period issues as well. This includes topics such as distinguishing between lochia and actual periods, as well as understanding irregular menstrual cycles during the postpartum phase. It’s a small but impactful step towards ensuring that mothers are better informed and supported during this crucial stage of life.
